Welcome to MAT 312/AMS 351 This course is an introduction to algebraic structures with a heavy emphasis on applications. On the algebra side, we will study algebraic properties of integers and such structures as sets and groups. On the applied side, we will discuss public key cryptography and error correcting codes. The course also provides a good opportunity to learn how to read and write rigorous proofs. These pages will be updated regularly throughout the semester.
