Coverage: Midterm 2 includes all material included in the previous exams, plus the material we have studied since, namely

  • Limits involving infinities (section 2.5)
  • Velocities and other rates of change (2.6)
  • Definition of derivative (2.7)
  • Equation of tangent line and linear approximation (part of 3.8 -- skip the section about differentials in 3.8)
  • What does derivative say about f? (2.8, 2.9)
  • Derivatives of polynomials and exponential functions (3.1)
  • Product and quotient rule (3.2)

Please note that it won't be a multiple choice exam: you will be required to write both your answers and your reasoning! This is important: answers without reasoning will get very little partial credit. Your explanations should be such that someone who does not know how to solve this problem can read and follow your explanations.

No books, notes, or calculators!

To help you prepare for the exam, here is a practice exam with solutions.
