12/12/06 The final exam is scheduled from 11-2 in 151 TNRB on Monday.

12/12/06 We will finish chapter 6 on Wednesday, and there will be a final exam review on Friday from 1-2/2:30. Meet in the mathlab for the review and we will find a room.

12/12/06 The grades are posted for the third test. The average score is 64 with a standard deviation of 18. They are available for pick-up from Diane and Solongo. If you did not take the test, it will be made available in the mathlab until Wednesday at 5. You will be docked points for taking the test late unless extenuating circumstances are present.

11/06/06 Extra Credit: For past 112 final exam you complete corretly, you will be given 1 extra credit test point. The past exams can be found here . You can work with others but everyone needs to turn in their own solution. Do not copy anyone elses work. If I find out you are copying, you will not be given any extra points.

11/06/06 All exams are graded and posted in blackboard. They will be available for pick-up in Diane/Solongo's office (number listed below). The average is 62 with a high of 98 with a standard deviation of approximately 20. If you have any questions or believe sometime what marked wrong, please see me.

11/06/06 The solutions to the second exam are posted here .

10/27/06 There will be a review on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 in the math lab. Homework through 4.4 will be due in class next Wednesday. Copy your homework if you need it to prepare for the test.

10/14/06 You are not required to do any of the homework problems on the bisection method.

10/10/06 I stayed up all night and graded the tests. Your score is available on blackboard. The test had an average of 64, standard deviation of 16.75, high of 99, and low of 18. If you have questions about how your test was graded, come see me or contact me by email. Come by my office between 4 and 6 if you would like your test.

10/9/06 Test 1 solutions are posted here . I hope to finish grading as soon as possible.

10/7/06 I will be posting solutions to the test slightly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday. If you were unable to take the test for some reason, you have until 5:00 p.m. Monday to take the exam in the mathlab. Your score will have an automatic 15 percent deduction for failure to take the test during the scheduled time unless I notify you otherwise. The tests will be available at noon.

10/2/06 I will be holding a test review in the Mathlab on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 and Thursday 6:00-8:00.

9/22/06 I will be holding an informal review in the mathlab on Saturday from 10:00 - 12:00 over most chapter 1 material. Please bring lots of questions about anything in chapter 1.

9/18/06 Pretest: You can still access the pretest online with the below link through 11:55 p.m. Wednesday. The password you will need is ex1tended. There will be no written pretest in the mathlab.

9/08/06 Office Hours: I will not be available this Saturday until 2:00, but will stay until 6:00. I will also try to periodically go to the mathlab to answer homework questions. If you see me in the mathlab, please come ask me any questions you may have. I also have my schedule on my office door (TMCB 367). Feel free to stop by during any of the open blocks if you have questions, and if I am not busy I will do my best to answer them.

9/08/06 Syllabus Correction: Homework will be due every FRIDAY not MONDAY so I may post solutions on Friday for you to study over the weekend for upcoming quizzes. You should complete the problems for all sections fully covered through the previous Wednesday. The first homework will be due next Friday. You will have quizzes next week over the note on proof and pretest questions.

9/07/06: If you are in math excel, you will have until Friday to complete both quizzes in the mathlab. Please see one of the secretaries in the math lab to get the quiz. Quizzes will be made available by 5:00 p.m. at the latest on the day they are given in recitation. So I do not favor math excel students, I have decided that anyone in the course that misses a quiz in recitation will be allowed to take it in the mathlab at their convience, as long as it is completed by 5:00 on Friday. DO NOT CONSULT WITH ONE ANOTHER ABOUT QUIZ QUESTIONS.

9/06/06: I will be gone next Monday through Friday at a conference in California. I will be in email contact if you have any questions. Aaron Peterson will be teaching Monday/Friday and Diane Hill will teach on Wednesday.

9/04/06: OFFICE HOURS:

Office hours will start on the first day of class.
Solongo Chuluunbaatar: T 10-12; TH 10-12: TMCB 247
Jeff Hendricks: M 12-2; W 12-2; F 12-1: Lower right section of mathlab
Diane Hill: T 12-1; W 2-3; TH 12-1: TMCB 247

9/04/06: Calculators: I do not mind if you use calculators on homework, but none will be allowed on quizzes or tests. This is due to the fact that you are not allowed to use a calculator on the common department final, and many of the graphing calculators trivialize the majority of test questions.

9/02/06: There is a pretest for this course which covers topics you should already know. It is found by going to this link . You have two attempts at this test if you wish to take it twice. Feel free to take it at your convience and know that I do not care if you use any notes, texts, or other resources as long as you do not consult other people. If you fail to obtain a 75% or better on this test, the math department suggests you drop the course and take 110 or 111. If you do not meet the 75% mark but feel you are ready for calculus, make sure you see me as soon as possible. The highest grade earned on either attempt will be given and is worth four quiz grades. This test is twenty questions long and is nearly identical to the 112 pretest review found at this link . I would very strongly recommend completing this entire review within the first week of class and then taking the pretest over the weekend or the following Monday. It will be available until the last add/drop date but try your best not to put it off until then. Please feel free to come to office hours if you need help understanding the review.

9/02/06: The teaching assistants for the course will be:

Jeff Hendricks; jjhendricks@hotmail.com
Scott Murff; sdmurff@gmail.com

Jeff will be holding five offices hours per week. If you have any concerns over homework or quiz grading this semester please email Jeff or Scott. If you cannot resolve your problem with either of them, please see me. For purposes related to university privacy policy, all grades will be posted on blackboard.

9/01/06: This note on mathematical proof should be read by the second class period.

8/21/06: Welcome to math 112 sections 11-15! All homework and test solutions will be posted here along with any course information.

12/19/05: NOTE TAKING
The best way to take notes in this course is to print off the lecture notes and take your notes directly on them. I provide these notes to minimize the amount of writing you will need to do in course lectures so you can be more engaged in class discussion. You may print multiple pages on a sheet to minimize printing costs by going to File>Print>Page Scaling> Multiple Pages per sheet (4 pages per sheet works best).

12/19/05: TECHNICAL ISSUES
All course documents are .pdf files, so if you do not have Adobe Reader on your home computer, you will need to download Adobe Reader 7.0 to view the below documents. Please let me know as soon as possible if you have trouble installing Adobe. I also understand that there may be problems accessing the site in non - Internet Explorer browsers. I wrote all the code for this website for IE so try to use that if you can. If you do not have access to IE, talk to me and I will show you how to fix the problem in other browsers.
