It is safe to say that the installation of the polymake system from the sources is not easy. This is due to the fact that we rely on very many different software components, each of which must be properly installed in the proper version before polymake itself can be installed. See the prerequisites page for details.

Therefore, we also offer precompiled versions which should be fairly easy to install. It is strongly recommended to use them if you do not need to make your own extensions. Note, however, that even in order to run the binary version you need a recent version of Perl (which should be installed on your system anyway). Currently we have binaries for RedHat Linux 7.3 and 8.0, Sun Solaris 2.8, and MacOS X 10.2.
