The path command

The path command with no arguments gives help and the current path (Macintosh version shown):

% path
path <path> (to replace)
path <,path> (to append)

:
A:user:Macaulay:bin:

With an argument, it either appends to or replaces the existing path, depending on whether or not the argument begins with a separator; see the preceding discussion on path handling.
