Macaulay now buffers output in verbose mode, in an attempt to speed up verbose mode, which is still roughly 10% to 20% slower than non-verbose mode, depending on the system. The new set variable iodelay maintains the value in system ticks (usually 60th's of a second) used to determine the minimum period between verbose calles to fflush(). Its default value is 60.
