The commands in this section all modify a previously defined matrix. They are often useful to simplify a matrix, or to change a single entry of a matrix. In order to use these commands, you must first use the edit command to tell Macaulay which matrix you wish to edit. This ``edit matrix'' is kept as the matrix to modify until either you select a different matrix, or the variable is removed.
