Grading: Homework 30%, Mid Term 30%, Final Exam 40%

If you are registered for this course, you should have a good knowledge of precalculus. The book followed will be "Single variable calculus" by Stewart. We will try to cover most of the material presented in chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4. You will be given one or two problem sets each week, which must be submitted on the due date. Please solve all the problems assigned. However, the grader will randomly select only a few problems for grading. It is your bad luck if you did not do those problems. Hence, before you submit the homework, make sure that every single problem is done correctly. Late homework will not be accepted under any circumstances, unless you have a valid medical excuse. Also, please visit this site frequently for the problem sets and any other announcements related to the course. We will have one mid term and a final exam. Please make sure you are available during that time.

The first homework is due on 8th June. It is quite long. Although you have an entire week to do the problems, I recommend that you start working on it immediately. You should be able to do all the problems, except possibly the curve sketching problems from section 1.3. We have covered all the necessary material in the first lecture. We will do curve skecthing on Wednesday. If you have any questions you should come to my office hours. Please do all the problems seriously. Remeber that the grader will choose only a few problems for grading. It is your bad luck if those problems are done incorrectly.

The second and thrid homeworks are due on 15th and 17th June respectively. Both of them are very long. I recommend that you start working on them immediately. All homework problems are important for the exam. So please do them seriously! If you have any questions, then come to my office hours.

Note for homework 3: For all the problems from chapter 2, you must compute the derivatives using the DEFINITION. If you use any short cut, you will receive no credit. On the other hand, for problems from chapter 3 you are expected to use the various rules of differentiation.

Here is a practice mid term paper. Please solve all the problems thoroughly before the exam. In addition, the three homeworks and everything covered in class is crucial for the exam.

The remaining homeworks have all been posted. They are all quite long. So please start working on them immediately.

Correction for homework 4: Do not do 3.5 problem 54. We haven't yet covered the relevant material.

Here is a practice final . Please try to solve all the problems thoroughly before the exam. In addition, the six homeworks and everything covered in class is crucial for the exam. Remember that the material covered before the mid term is also important for the final.
