Mathematics 131 Syllabus
- Prerequisites: Passing Math 123 or 130 with at least a C, or receiving 5 or better on the math placement exam.
- Textbook: Calculus: Concepts and Contexts, Third Edition, Stony Brook Edition, by James Stewart. The regular Third Edition (non-Stony Brook) is also fine, though it has more material than we'll need.
- Schedule: We will cover roughly one section of Stewart per lecture, from Section 1.1 to 5.5.
- Homework: Assigned each Friday on the web site and collected in the next Friday's lecture. Homework will be returned by TAs in recitation. Late homework will not be accepted, but your lowest homework score will not be counted.
- Web homework: Problems will be assigned on Fridays, beginning February 3. Details to come.
- Quizzes: Quizzes will be assigned weekly in recitation, based on the previous week's submitted homework. There will be no quiz makeups, but your lowest quiz score will not be counted.
- Exams: No makeups! You must set aside the following times for evening exams.
- Early exam: Wednesday February 8, 8:30 - 10:00 pm.
