- 5. Schedule change due to blackout: Due to the big blackout on
Thursday, Aug. 14, our class was cancelled. I will collect HW #5 (sections
4.2, 4.3 and 4.4) on Monday, Aug. 18, and I will also give Quiz #4 on
Monday. Also section 5.4 would be skipped. Section 5.3 would be covered
briefly on Wednesday, Aug. 20. 8/16/03

- 7. Coverage of the final: The final is almost
cumulative. Mathematical induction and solving linear
congruences would not be in the final. But Fermat's and Euler's theorems,
and the ring structure of Z_n will be,
because they are related to what we
learned in the 2nd half. Of course chapters 2, 4 and 5 will be in the
