Class Meeting Times: The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:50 - 2:10 pm in Physics P113. Attendance is required.

Exams. There will be one midterm exam and one final exam. The midterm will take place during class on Thursday, October 25. The final exam will be on Tuesday, December 18 from 11:00-1:30.

Homework. Homework will be assigned and collected each week. Homework assignments will be handed out in class, and a due date will be indicated on each assignment. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. The homework is the most important part of this course.

Homework will consist of four types of problems. "Exercises" are meant to be a straightforward application of the ideas encountered in class or presented in the textbook. "Problems" will involve more deep thought. "Writing problems" will ask you to write a paragraph or short essay. The last problem on each assignment will be a "Puzzle."

Solutions to the "Problems" and "Writing Problems" may be revised and handed in again one week after the original due date. You must turn in at least partial work on the original due date to be eligible to hand in revisions. You must hand in your original graded homework along with the revision, so that I can see what progress you made.

You will at times be asked to present your ideas or solutions to problems in class.

Grading. The course grade will be computed as follows:

Homework 30%
Class Participation 10%
Midterm 25%
Final exam 35%

Special Needs. If you have any condition such as a physical or mental disability which will make it difficult for you to carry out the work as I have outlined it, please notify me in the first two weeks of the course so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
