MAT 131, Fall 2001

Homework 2, due Sept 10 or 11

Homework should be handed in at your recitation. No late homework will be accepted. Solutions should be written neatly and clearly. Problems that ask you to ``explain'' or ``describe'' should be answered with complete English sentences. Because the main purpose of homework is to aid your learning, not as an evaluation tool for the instructor, only two problems will be graded each week. The rest will be checked to see that you have completed the assignment. If you would like more feedback on your work, check the official solutions, which will be posted after homework is turned in, and compare them to your own. Help with completing the homework problems and understanding their solutions is available from your TA or your instructor during office hours, or at the Math Learning Center (Physics A-127). At the end of the semester, your lowest homework grade will be ignored. The rest will count towards your recitation grade.

Reading for this week:

Sections 1.5-1.6 (covered this week). Sections 2.1, 2.2, and Appendix D. (to be covered next week).

Problems to hand in:
Section 1.5 # 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 19
Section 1.6 # 7, 8, 10, 18, 22, 38, 50, 58
