The early exam covers the prerequisite material - precalculus - including:

  • Solving for variables in equations
  • Exponentiation, simplifying algebraic expressions
  • Finding equations of straight lines
  • Inequalities and absolute values
  • Graphing functions, transforming the graphs
  • Basic properties of functions, composition and inversion
  • Quadratic polynomials and the quadratic formula
  • Exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Trigonometry: standard angles, graphs of trigonometric functions, basic identities.

To give you an idea what to expect, here is a practice exam, complete with solutions. You can also prepare for exam by doing Parts 1 and 2 of the online practice math placement exam.

Students failing the Early Exam may be required to drop down to a lower level class!
