Welcome to the World of Jason Samuels!

I work, I play, I have had adventures. Here is the journey...

How do I make my living?

I'm a grad student in the Math Department at SUNY-Stony Brook. My fields of interest include Mathematical Physics and Algebraic Geometry. My advisor is Leon Takhtajan.

As an undergrad, I collaborated on a paper which was published, The N-extent of S^3(p,m)

Courses I have taught presviously include:

  • Math 125 The course coordinator was Paul Kumpel.
  • Math 126 The course coordinator was Detlef Gromoll.
  • Math 132 The course coordinator was Yair Minsky.
  • Math 131 The course coordinator was Myong-Hi Kim.

    How do I entertain myself?

In the Spring of 2000, I found a brilliant, witty, soulful script whose story needed to be told. That was the impetus for Anniversary, which I produced and directed. The show ran March 31-April 2. Each show was performed to a near-capacity crowd that laughed and cried with us the whole evening. This was my first time directing, and I want to thank the cast for making it magical, and doing an incredible job as they helped me bring this play to life.

On March 18, 1999, I brought to life An Evening of Cabaret. In addition to producing the show, I performed as well. A wonderful cast sang a program of show tunes, performing to a standing-room-only audience. A joyous time was had by everyone on both sides of the footlights.

In April 1999 I participated in the Roth Regatta. As part of a team of skilled engineers, we designed and built a boat out of cardboard and duct tape to enter in the race. Somehow, we didn't win. But the pictures below show that a good time was had by all.

    the coolest musc festival ever??
What have I been doing all these years?

I spent four glorious years at Duke University. I graduated magna cum laude in 1996 with a BS in Math. In addition to a rigorous academic schedule, I did such extracurricular activities as:

  • Hoof 'n' Horn, the musical theater troupe
  • newscaster and sportscaster for WXDU, the campus radio station
  • member of Alpha Epsilon Pi, including a semester on the executive board
  • Duke Democrats, including two years as treasurer
  • I was also the #1 fan of Out of the Blue, the female a cappella group. Check out all the CDs they've put out, and all the awards they've won.

You can't go to Duke without being a Cameron Crazy and cheering till you're hoarse for the Basketball Team. This year, they made it all the way to the NCAA Finals. (For all my fellow Dukies, an excellent unofficial site for the team is www.juliovision.com.)

Now that I've graduated, I keep my Duke roots alive and stay in touch with old friends through DUMAA, the local Duke Alumni Association. If you're a Dukie in the New York area, check out their home page to see what events you can be a part of!
