Ricci Flow and 3-Manifolds

Course Description. This course is an introduction to geometry and analysis, based primarily on the study of the Ricci flow on 3-manifolds. The list of topics we hope to cover includes:

The course will be reasonably elementary: it is not an advanced or topics course on Ricci flow or Perelman's work.


Prerequisites. A basic knowledge of Riemannian geometry, at the level of MAT 568 for example. You should know for instance what Ricci curvature is.


Source Material. There are several recent textbooks on Ricci flow, including texts by Ben Chow and Dan Knopf, Peter Topping, and others as well. An excellent general source, and a good place to start, is the Ricci flow webpage maintained by John Lott at U. Mich:
