PROBLEM OF THE MONTH



The Math Club and the Mathematics Department are sponsoring a monthly competition open to all undergraduates at Stony Brook. Prizes of $25 will be given to the most complete and best explained solutions (at most 2) to the problem of the month.

The problems are posted here, and on the Undergraduate Mathematics notice boards in the PL level of the Math Building opposite the elevators.

Solutions should be submitted to the Mathematics Undergraduate Office (Math P-142) or electronically to problem@math.sunysb.edu by the due date. Acceptable electronic formats are: PDF, Postscript, DVI, (La)TeX, or just plain text. Please include your name and phone number, or preferably your email address.

Winners will be announced by the fifth day of the month following posting and listed in the Department's Commencement Program. Students may get a hint on how to begin the problem from any of the advisors in the Undergraduate Math Office.
