Transportation Guide

TRAIN: LIRR trains leave from Penn. Station in New York and (usually) arrive at Stony Brook about 1.75 hours later. One can get further information by calling the LIRR: 718-217-5477 or 516-231-5477.

AIR: The closest airport is Islip; other nearby airports are LaGuardia (LGA) and Kennedy (JFK) in New York. There are several limousine services from these airports to Stony Brook. Spartan (516-928-5454) charges $20 for one person during normal hours from Islip, and $34 from JFK or LGA. Charges are somewhat higher for more than one person, or for off hours.

AUTO: From the North. There is a ferry service from Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson; call 516-473-0286 for information. From Port Jefferson, follow SR 25A East to Nicholls Road, then follow signs to the Main entrance to the University.

From the West. Take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) East to exit 62 N. Follow County Road 97 to sign for main entrance to the University. OR Take the Northern State Parkway to its end, where it joins SR 347 and 454. After about 2 miles, stay left on SR 347. After about 10 miles turn left on County Road 97. Then turn left at main entrance to the University.

From the East or South. If you are coming from either these directions, you are already on Long Island, and should know how to get here.

Inside the University. There is a short spur off Nicholls Road (County Road 97) to a stop sign; turn left at the stop sign, then turn right at the next stop sign. When you see the building with a whitish almost windowless wall on your left saying "mathematics", turn left into the parking lot and park. If you are planning to be here on Monday, please see Bernie Maskit or Lucille Meci (our administrative assistant) for a parking sticker.
