The SUNY Stony Brook Campus
The State University of New York at Stony Brook is situated on a
1,100 acre site on the rural north shore of Long Island.
The West Campus is bordered by County Road 97 (Nicolls Road)
on its eastern side
and NY Route 25-A (Old Country Road) on its western and northern sides.
Campus Entrances:
On Nicolls road (County Road 97),
there are three campus entrances.
We suggest that you use the MAIN ENTRANCE, which is
the second entrance on the western side of the road,
(this is the left side when going northbound).
Directions to the Math Department:
After passing through the MAIN ENTRANCE, use
this map of central
campus map, to find the Math Department,
or follow the directions of the next paragraph.
Once inside the Campus, there is a short spur of road
to a gate house with a stop sign; pass this stop
sign and a few meters after it, turn left at
a construction site surrounded by a dark green fence
and follow Center Drive.
You will pass under a pedestrian overpass and then on your LEFT
you will see brick buildings, including
CHEMISTRY and PHYSICS. Connected to the Physics Building,
you will see a 6 level brick building with the word MATHEMATICS
on its wall. Here turn left and park. If no space is left in this
parking area, try the adjacent larger parking lot.
Please check with the Registration Desk in Room S-240
of the Mathematics Building about the need to obtain a
parking permit.
Hotels in the local area
