Ricci Flow and the Geometrization of 3-Manifolds

This will be a series of several lectures. Prior to Professor Perelman's arrival, there will be two introductory lectures given by Stony Brook faculty. During the week of April 21-24, there will be three lectures, to be followed by additional lectures the following week.

Introductory Lectures:

Michael Anderson: Introduction to the Ricci Flow

Monday, April 7, 3:30 - 5 or 5:30 in Math P-131
Martin Rocek: Some relations of the Ricci flow with string theory

The Simons Lecture Series:

with a half-hour coffee/tea/cookies break in between.

These meetings will be informal discussion sessions in constrast to the formal lectures of Week 1. The discussions will be led by Grisha Perelman, partly on what needs to be discussed, and partly in response to audience questions.

Professor Perelman will be visiting Stony Brook during the second half of April, 2003, from April 20 to May 3.
