On July 26, 1995, Wieslaw Szlenk died in Barcelona after a long illness, while he was holding a visiting position in the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. Since his main contributions in mathematics were in the field of discrete dynamical systems we are organizing in his memory a symposium on this subject.
The interest of the symposium will be focused on systems in spaces of dimension one (intervals, circles, trees and graphs) and higher (tori, spheres, discs and other manifolds).
The aim of this symposium is twofold. On one hand, we would like to summarize the progress made in this field, and on the other one to explore new directions. People working in this area will have the opportunity to exchange ideas.
We plan to publish the proceedings of the conference. All papers will follow the standard refereeing process. In the second announcement we will provide instructions for preparation of manuscripts.

The meeting will take place at the Centre de Recerca Matematica (CRM) located at the campus of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in Bellaterra (a small town near Barcelona). We expect the participants to start arriving on Saturday, August 23. On August 24 there will be a guided visit to Barcelona.
