IMPORTANT!!!

For the Exam,

BRING YOUR ID - Student ID or other Photo ID(e.g. driver's licence) to exam. If you don't have any, see me Monday or Wednesday after class.

Calculator Policy

The exam will be two parts, part A and B. Only in part A you will be allowed to use calculators.

At the beginning only part A will be handed out. If you do not need calculators any more, or if you have finished part A, then you

may raise your hand and get part B. When doing part B, you may still correct/work on part A, but you will not be allowed to use

calculators.

Of course, if you do not intend to use calculators at all, you may receive both part A and B at the beginning.

Calculators are only to assist you in logical thinking, and all problems will be designed so that it would be solvable without the

need for calculators.

After 1 hour has passed, everyone will be requested to put away there calculators and part B will be handed out to those who

have not received it.

What calculators can I bring?

Students may bring scientific or graphical calculators(at most two) to examinations. Some recommended graphical calculators are the Texas Instruments TI-82, TI-83, TI-85 and TI-86 and the Sharp EL-9300 and EL-9600 models.

Unacceptable machines include the following:

You will be able to solve the problems without the need of calculators as long as you know how to do algebraic manipulations. Do not expect that you will be able to solve the problems just by using calculators. Some problems will be conceptual in nature, so it will test your depth of understanding of the material rather than calculation skills.

Rules for calculator usage.

I am aware of the fact that some calculators can transfer data to other calculators. This act is prohibited during the exam.
Also, you may not borrow calculator from another student during the exam. So if you plan to use one, bring one. Be prepared for any malfunction or battery drain.
